Give Up Addiction

According to several studies, criterion for addiction includes:

  • unsuccessful attempts to quit
  • persistent desire and craving
  • continued use despite knowledge of harm to oneself and others
  • taking the drug to avoid or relieve withdrawal.

Drug addiction is a complex illness  characterized by intense and, at times, uncontrollable drug craving, along with compulsive drug seeking and use that persist even in the face of devastating consequences.

Because drug abuse and addiction have so many dimensions and disrupt so many aspects of an individual's life, treatment is not simple.

Addiction treatment must help the individual stop using drugs, maintain a drug-free lifestyle, and achieve productive functioning in the family, at work, and in society.

The statistical correlation between tobacco and drug abuse is high. The first and most important aspect of quitting smoking is to decide firmly that you want to get rid of the habit. Gradually reduce the number of cigarettes that you are smoking per day and then finally abandon the habit altogether.

Some cyberspace addictions are game and competition oriented, some fulfill more social needs, some simply may be an extension of workaholicism.

Methamphetamine is a drug with high burnout potential. Treatment providers in all states report users enter treatment more rapidly with addiction to meth than with either heroin or cocaine.

Crystal meth addiction is out of control in America. The State of California is leading the way with the city of Riverside being the Crystal meth capital of the world. The epidemic is so bad, the U.S. Department of Justice recently claimed Meth has surpassed Cocaine as  the new "drug of choice"  by our youth.

Sex addiction is a term used to describe the behavior of a person who has an unusually intense drive or an obsession with this behavior. Thinking and the thought of tend to dominate the addicts thinking, making it difficult to work or engage in healthy personal relationships.

Porn users have only to tap their ever-present screens to get a fix. Not surprisingly,  most  guys below a certain age are using Internet porn, many quite heavily, irrespective of childhood-trauma profile. Porn addicts are not hooked on sex; they're hooked on Internet porn. They have not been training for sex, but for virtual stimulation.

Alcohol Addiction is a serious problem. However, alcoholism is not always as easy to notice as is drug addiction. How do we determine who is suffering from Alcohol Addiction and who is not?

Food addiction is termed medically as compulsive eating. It is commonly evidenced by an unrelenting relationship with food. Obsession in food itself readily settles in. All that a person experiencing compulsive eating can picture is having food by his side in isolation. This individual has the will and eagerness to partake in eating even when hunger is not on the table.

You can become addicted to any drug, if you have a family history of  addiction.  If  at least one of your family members is addicted to alcohol, you have a greater chance  of developing an addiction to any other drug.

At some point, the addicted person may realize that life has passed them by, and that they have missed out on enjoying much other than the addiction.

This often happens when people overcome addiction.
